Amilcar is the grandson of Andrés Alencastre, one of the most important Quechua poets of the 20th century. He’s the living heart of a small village above 3000m in the Andes, Maras. For more than 20 years, he has dedicated his time to bringing life back to a place his mother used to call “a ghost town”, and preserving it from mass tourism. He brought together the families of the village into rural tourism, and following their cultural heritage, they now share language, music and gastronomy with travelers from all over.
